Age I started modelling … 54  Recent accomplishments … Since I can remember, I have wanted to go to Tibet. So for my 50th birthday, I planned a trip to China and Tibet. I took the China-Tibet train, otherwise known as the Qinghai-Tibet train that travels from Beijing to Lhasa (4064klms) across China and Tibet. The highlight of my trip was to stand at the foot of Mount Everest. To stand there at base camp and feel Everest’s wind on my face and to stare at its peak on a clear blue day was one of most amazing experiences of my life!  I challenge the beauty ideal by … following my instincts. I hear time and time again that “hair colour” is a woman’s best friend. I was told by many hairdressers that my face was too young to have “grey” hair. I was also told that long hair after a certain age makes you look old. Well I’m here to tell you that I have never received so many compliments or so much attention since I let my hair turn “silver” and let it grow. Not only that, I have never felt so young and dare I say sexy! So take that!!!!! I hope to bring to the fashion world … a sense of humour and freedom. I learned about beauty from … Nirmala.  When I was in my early thirties, I fulfilled a long time dream to work in Mother Teresa’s homes in Calcutta, India. One day, while I was working in Prem Dan (a long term care facility for destitute women) Nirmala was brought in. She was very ill. To describe the state she was in is not possible. She became my charge. I looked after her the best I could, but the inevitable happened and she passed. I saw the most beautiful woman I had ever seen when I looked into her eyes. The beauty that I saw in Nirmala’s eyes, has taught me what true beauty is and I aspire to it every day.   My ultimate modelling job would be … to model for Chanel! Gabrielle Chanel is a role model to me. She grew up in an orphanage and started designing hats and then women’s clothing that looked nothing like what was in trend at the time. She was not a particularly attractive woman, but she was wooed by many and was a tremendous force to be reckoned with. I admire her and her achievements a great deal.
