My family background is … Slovak, Scottish and French Canadian. I am happy to share … that in a recent production I was cast as Adrianna, the female lead in Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. I had been told before that I had the talent to be a leading lady, but I never thought, as a bigger girl, I had the looks for it. I was shocked to learn I had been chosen over all the other babes who wanted that role. The experience changed my perception of myself as well as my perception of how others see me. I have never felt more beautiful than on that stage, night after night, speaking that incredible text while wearing a most stunning costume made just for me. I absolutely can’t live without… Change. I guess it’s a good thing I’ll never have to. Embrace the inevitable! My style is … an evolution. I learned about beauty from … living as much as possible. Seizing opportunities. My Mom. People watching. My Dad – who is always telling my mom how beautiful she is. Falling in love – with ideas, objects, characters, songs, people. Spending time with babies and little kids. Travelling. I challenge the beauty ideal by … not measuring my worth by the number on my pants. And by not being afraid to wear clothes that may draw attention to myself. If I could tell a young girl anything I would say… babe, you’ve got it. Illegitimis non carborundum. Allow yourself to be vulnerable – though it can be scary and painful. Getting out of your comfort zone is healthy and will keep you alive. Reading a book will make you an infinitely more interesting person than all the lipsticks you can buy. What I would like to see more of in the modelling world … I would like to see less segregation between different types of models and clothing. I go shopping with my straight-sized friends, why shouldn’t we both be represented along side each other, both on the racks and in the campaigns? My ultimate modelling job would be … something that involved the opportunity to travel to an exotic location!
