My first modelling job … was at the ripe old age of 12! Recent accomplishments … I’m most proud of the causes my business supports. We built a school, a well, provide a lunch program, and much more for “our kids” in Kenya through Free the Children. Now we are helping to build them a mobile medical station. We have also helped over 2,500 entrepreneurs in developing countries by providing them with loans through Kiva. Most recently, we started our own scholarship fund through Pathways to Education to assist Canadian youth. To me beauty is … my 10 year old daughter looking in the mirror and knowing she is perfect exactly as she is. I learned about beauty from … my husband. He doesn’t care if my skin is blotchy or my hair is a mess. He prefers me with little or no make-up and wearing just jeans and a t-shirt. I challenge the beauty ideal by … having agreed to get back into modelling at the age of 40! I hope to bring to the fashion world … the realization that one does not need, and should not aspire to be, 5’10” and 110 pounds. Beauty and healthy should go hand in hand. That is what fashion should stand for, and that is the lesson we must teach young people and follow ourselves. We are the role models for our children – they hear what we say and watch what we do. My ultimate modelling job would be … a public service announcement on relevant causes, whether it be breast cancer awareness, anti-smoking, volunteerism … there are many important messages out there that need to be heard.
